The Ministry of Labour is yet to ascertain how much it will cost taxpayers to settle the 1,200 outstanding compensation claims by civil servants who suffered injuries while on official duty.
Minister Filipe Bole said they also cannot reveal at this stage how much has been paid out to settle other compensation cases.
Following a directive from the Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama to clear the backlog of compensation settlements, the Workers Compensation Taskforce from the Ministry of Labour has settled 823 cases out of the total 2201 cases that were pending, which was done within the span of five weeks.
Government anticipates that the remaining compensation cases will be settled by the end of May.
