The Fiji Police Force Community Policing Department has taken a proactive approach to stop people from using poison to catch crab and fish in Suva.

The stand comes after people were seen selling only fish heads at the Suva Market while the rest of the fish have been discarded for reasons only known to the sellers.

Inspector Saini Tale of the Community Police said that the selling of the fish heads puts consumers' health at risk.

According to Tale, even the sale of fish bait has been abundant in the market.

He said people are buying these fish heads because they are cheap without understanding the health risk they are placing themselves and their families in.

Tale added they would look into this health hazard in conjunction with the relevant stakeholders such as the Health Ministry, Fisheries Department and the Boarder Control Enforcement agency.
