The Committee on Better Utilisation of Land is holding talks with the landowners in the Western Division with the view to relinquish the remaining five years of leases and the issue of a new lease altogether.
Commissioner Western, Joeli Cawaki who is heading the committee said for so long the sugar industry has been facing numerous problems and no major attempts have been taken to solve these problems.
However, according to Cawaki, this committee has been tasked to make sure that leases get renewed and people make best use of the land available.
Cawaki said the committee will look into all the problems faced by the various stakeholders in the sugar industry.
