Commissioner To Decide On Investigation
Police spokeswoman Ema Mua said Commissioner of Police Commodore Esala Teleni will decide later about the investigation and the manner in which it will be carried out.
Mua has also confirmed that Commodore Teleni has already met with Interim Defense Minister Ratu Epeli Ganilau, however, she could not provide more details about the meeting.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Human Rights Commission (FHRC) is awaiting the medical report of prisoner Josefa Baleiloa who remains admitted in critical condition at the CWM Hospital since his recapture last Thursday.
FHRC chairperson Doctor Shaista Shameem said at this stage they cannot do much and will await the outcome of the investigation being undertaken by the police into how Baleiloa was seriously injured.
Police had earlier said that Baleiloa allegedly tried to attack the officers with a knife when they tried to apprehend him after he escaped from Naboro Medium Prison two weeks ago.
Baleiloa remains admitted under heavy police guard.
