The Commerce Commission has thanked the management of supermarkets for cooperating with officials as they carried out checks on the new maximum wholesale and retail prices for basic food items.
Chairman Dr Mahendra Reddy said officials from the Commission were able to carry out their checks efficiently as management and shop keepers were helpful.
He added officials were also able to clarify issues in relation to the new prices.
Meanwhile the Commission yesterday issued an on the spot fine on one supermarket for failure to comply with the new prices for basic food items.
Doctor Reddy confirmed that the fine was issued to a supermarket in the Nausori area.
Also yesterday Fijivillage witnessed Commerce Commission Officials accompanied by Police Officers carrying out inspections in a major supermarket outlet in Suva.
All traders have to follow the new Maximum Wholesale and Retail Prices for basic food items from today or face on the spot fines of $3,000.
