Commerce Commission Officials accompanied by Police Officers this morning carried out a second round of inspection in Suva to see if supermarkets are complying with the new maximum wholesale and retail prices for basic food items.
Fijivillage caught up with one of the officials from the Commerce Commission that are carrying out the checks at RB Patel in Waimanu Road Suva.
All traders have to follow the new Maximum Wholesale and Retail Prices for basic food items from today or face on the spot fines of $3,000.
We also conducted a check of the supermarkets and found that most had items on the shelves and were complying to the prices set by the Commission.
However in two supermarkets we were informed that lamb neck, chops and shanks were short in supply and they were awaiting supply.
Meanwhile we also talked to some shoppers on what they thought of the changes.
Meli Labaibure of Wainimala Naitasiri who made the early morning trip at 4am to Suva this morning to conduct his shopping in Suva said he is happy with the changes as he noticed a significant drop in his shopping bill.
However there were some mixed reactions from other shoppers.
