The Commerce Commission will now regulate the charges for services rendered by FINTEL through the Southern Cross cable after investigating FINTEL's market power and monopoly status.
Commission Chairman Dr. Mahendra Reddy revealed to Fijivillage that based on their findings, the Commission will now decide how much FINTEL can charge telecommunication and internet service providers for use of the Southern Cross cable.
Dr. Reddy said this should see a decrease in charges for internet services and making overseas calls.
FINTEL is yet to respond to the Commission’s decision.
