The Commerce Commission will today start their investigation into the pricing of hardware supplies in the country.

Commission Chairman, Dr Mahendra Reddy said that they will be writing to the various suppliers in the country requesting a list of items and documents that will also include the way prices of items are determined.

Doctor Reddy said they will be looking at the market power of each supplier and the prices over a period of time.

This investigation started after the Minister for Justice and Public Enterprise, Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum raised concerns over reports that there were huge mark-ups in the prices of certain hardware items.

Dr Reddy said they would look into the issue, as it affected the grassroot level as many were relying on the items to build their homes, and such practices by the close to three suppliers were not practicing good competitive behaviour.
