The Commerce Commission is currently looking into complaints from the public that some supermarkets were taking items that fall under the price control off their shelves.
Chairman Dr Mahendra Reddy said they are trying to find out what is the reason behind the sudden shortage of these items.
Dr Reddy said that with the limited number of resources available to them they will be relying on public assistance especially when it comes to corner shops.
The Order which came into effect yesterday sees the set price for basic food items such as all brands of tinned fish, sardines, tuna flakes, edible oil, baby food, baby milk, powdered milk, liquid milk, tea, corned beef and mutton, noodles, margarine and imported butter, potatoes, onions, garlic and split peas.
Meanwhile, The Consumer Council of Fiji had slammed the practice saying that the general public were being robbed of what was rightly theirs.
