The interim government has raised a number of questions in relation to the alleged irregular spending by certain executives of the Commerce Commission.
Interim Attorney General and Commerce Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has raised serious concern after finding out that huge pay increments were approved by the Commission for some staff without following proper approvals.
This includes pay increments from $35,000 to $70,000 for some executives.
Sayed-Khaiyum said the Commerce Commission needs to be held accountable for making such decisions as the commission is funded by the taxpayers of the country.
It has been confirmed that several queries have been put to the Commerce Commission Chairman Charles Sweeney who stays in Australia.
Sweeney had ordered that the Commission's office in Suva close its doors more than a week ago as it was facing financial difficulties.
The Commission reopened at the end of last week after the Finance Ministry allocated funding for the office.
