The military retirement age has always been 55 and it is the prerogative of the Army Commander if he believes the services of some officers are needed after 55.
Deputy secretary of information Major Neumi Leweni said military officers often retire when they are 55 and their policy did not change to 60 with the policy changes for civil servants.
He said if someone is over 55, the Military Commander has the final say.
