Managing Director of the Colonial Bank, Laurie Mellsop has assured its customers that banking services will normalize by later this afternoon after disruptions due to a fire in its Joske street building in Suva this morning.
At a press conference this afternoon, Mellsop confirmed that staff who were based at the top floor of the PARADE ARCADE, ALONG VICTORIA PARADE have been now re-allocated at other centres.
Mellsop also confirms that assessment work on the building will start this afternoon.
Chief Fire Officer, Mark Reid said with the help of certain safety measures placed at the building, their firefighters did everything correct and the fire was under control in some hours time.
The top floor of the building was occupied by Technical and IT Staff of Colonial. Some floors in the five floor building are operational seven days a week but the top floor was closed for the weekend.
Downtown Suva came to a standstill as seven fire tenders attended to the blaze on the fifth floor of the building at around 7:30 this morning and roads around the areas were cordoned off.
Reid said the National Fire Authority has begun a major investigation in relation to the fire at Parade Arcade.
