The trial of a 39-year-old security officer Josua Colanaudolu who is facing one count of murder, 6 counts of rape, 4 counts of abduction and one count of indecently annoying a female, has started before High Court Judge Justice Salesi Temo.
Colanaudolu has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The charges include the case where Colanaudolu allegedly abducted, raped and murdered a 14-year-old girl in Deuba last year.
While opening the prosecution’s case, Assistant DPP Lee Burney said that the 14-year-old Deuba girl’s mother had sent her daughter to church and her body was found on the following day.
Burney says Colanaudolu was drinking at his brother’s farewell and he then came across the victim.
It is alleged Colanaudolu grabbed and struck the 14-year-old girl and then carried her across the road to the beach.
Burney says Colanaudolu allegedly raped her on the beach and then discarded her body.
The prosecution told the court that as a result of the investigation, three women also came forward and said that they were also allegedly raped by Colanaudolu.
The first state witness, Pathologist Dr. James Kalougivaki told the court that the cause of death was massive brain injuries due to severe traumatic head injury.
He also told the court that people can die a quick death due to these injuries.
During cross examination, the defence counsel asked Dr. Kalougivaki if the victim could have died of suffocation.
He said that the cause of death was massive brain injuries.
