Cokanasiga commission new cogeneration plant
Interim Minister for Primary Industries, Joketani Cokanasiga has officially commissioned a new cogeneration plant at the Tropik Wood yard in Drasa, Lautoka.
Cokanasiga said this will pave the way for a new dimension of power generation and will slowly take the nation away from heavy dependence on fossil fuel.
He adds to a small developing nation like ours, the heavy dependence on imported fuel will continue to have a negative impact on us and the cost of producing energy will also increase.
Also, the Fiji Electricity Authority has entered into a long-term power purchase agreement with Tropik to purchase all surplas electrical energy supplied by Tropik Wood.
Cokanasiga adds with the expansion of cogeneration, Tropik will be in a position to generate 12,300 kilowatts and supply up to 72 million units of electricity to the national grid.
