The President of the Fiji Bus Operators Association is calling for co-operation from all parties involved in the running of the Free Bus Fare Program to allow it to run smoothly.
While reacting to comments made that some students are being overcharged by bus some drivers who service certain school bus routes, President Zane Dean said this is only the first week of the program and there is bound to be some teething problems, adding this is not the time to be pointing fingers at one another.
Dean does admit that there are some isolated cases which they are investigating, however given more time the program should run smoothly.
Meanwhile the government committee overseeing the Free School Bus Fare Program is now exploring some options and are hoping to implement a better or neater system to ensure the program runs smoothly.
Transport Ministry Spokesperson, Sainiana Waqainabete said their main aim is to adopt a new system to replace the current system where the Finance Ministry gives funds to the Education Ministry, and then the schools have to disburse the school bus fare daily to the students.
