The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) has received close to 9000 complaints of alleged corrupt practices since it was establish in early 2007.

According to FICAC statistics, 2,128 complaints were received in 2007, 2,851 in 2008 and 3,974 in 2009.

FICAC has prosecuted 79 and laid close to 400 charges with 9 convictions in Court, 8 of which were achieved this year.

Three of these convictions are pending sentencing.

The Commission said the Community and Education Department that was created in April this year has carried out Anti-Corruption Awareness in 39 High Schools, 6 provinces, 2 tertiary institutions, 16 PSC workshops and 39 government Sections.

FICAC was established in April 2007 to investigate acts of corruption in Fiji.
