The Interim government is expected to fork out close to $50 million dollars following the assessment been carried out by DISMAC in those areas that were badly affected by Cyclone Gene.

DISMAC Director, Joeli Rokovada said that this is not the full cost of the damage as assessment are still continuing inland and on the outer islands which they could not reach because of the travelling difficulties they faced.

The Agriculture sector is badly affected with close to $15 million dollars of damage has been estimated.

With heavy rainfall and flooding, roads repairing work is likely to cost more than $10 million dollars while damage to water supply has been estimated at a cost of $5 million.

The Health, Housing and Education are all estimated to reach $2 million dollars.

Rokovada added that the amount could increase as they are still carrying out assessment in most of the interior parts of Viti Levu.
