The military's Land Force Commander has today made a strong statement against the Fiji Times newspaper, saying it should be closed down immediately.
Colonel Pita Driti said while the Fiji Media Council has been allegedly saying that all political parties and stakeholders should take their grievances to the media, the RFMF has always faced problems with media outlets like Fiji Times who he alleged is a biased media outlet.
He said he stands by his statement that appropriate action should be taken against the newspaper company.
Colonel Driti said they are not particularly happy with the Fiji Media Council's advice as many statements issued by the RFMF are not been published or televised.
Colonel Driti has not said anything further on their next course of action.
Fiji Media Council Chairman Daryl Tarte said if the military have any complaints against any media organization then it should report it to the Media Council.
Tarte said Colonel Driti's comments come as a shock to him as they had a meeting with military spokesperson Major Neumi Leweni who had no complaints against the media.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Times Editor-in-Chief Netani Rika said they have always sought comments from the interim government and the RFMF on all issues and are always cooperative.
