Close To $3m Used For Food Rations
Principal DISMAC Officer, Patiliai Dobui reveals that they have used 2 million 642 thousand 223 dollars to assist 147 thousand 196 people in Nadroga, Navosa, Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Tavua, Rakiraki, Nadarivatu and Ra.
According to Dobui this money has been used to hand out Rice, Flour, Dhal, Milk, Sugar, Cooking Oil and Tinned Fish.
Looking at the various areas, the most amount of money was spent in Rakiraki where a total of 520 thousand and 30 dollars was used to assist the people in the area.
However, with regards to Nadi, the worst area affected by the floods, DISMAC said nothing can be confirmed yet as they are still assessing the area and those affected.
DISMAC said the delivery of rations continues and these figures are expected to increase.
At the moment, there are 230 people in the 9 evacuation centres still activated in the Western Division.
However, people have started to raise serious concern on DISMAC's role in relation to the distribution of food rations.
A stroke patient from Nadovi Nadi, Kamla Prasad is now seeking answers from the authorities after he and nearby located 10 families did not receive any food rations after the floods.
Prasad has also raised serious concern on the distribution of food rations to areas where people have been least affected by floods.
When Fijivillage News spoke to Prasad this morning, he could not hold he's frustration on how they have surviving so far.
