A company clerk of Rewa street who pleaded guilty to three counts of theft, forgery and using forged document escaped a custodial sentence however was given an 18 months suspended sentence by Magistrate Makereta Mua yesterday.

The court heard on the 29th April this year 22 year old Imran Khan Khan stole a cheque leaflet from Ashok Transport Limited and entered an amount of $765.75 and he also forged the company's secretary signature.

He took the leaflet to Westpac bank and informed the teller that a friend will collect the money.

The court heard when Khan's friend entered the bank, the Police was waiting for him and both were interviewed and arrested.

Khan told the court he wanted the money to pay for his University fees.

Magistrate Mua sentenced Khan to 18 months suspended sentence.
