It is estimated that thousands of liters of clean drinking water from all treated water plants around the country is wasted due to the old systems currently in place.
Senior Water Engineer Central/ Eastern Samuela Tubui said they have to use the treated water to clean out the filters at the treatment plants, and between 10 to 15% of the treated water is used in the process.
However, Tubui reveals that they have plans to change the systems to ensure that water wastage through the backwash process is reduced as soon as possible.
