Class 3 victim to be medically examined tomorrow
DPP counsel Paulini Madanavosa today told High Court judge Justice Daniel Gounder that the class three student will be medically reviewed tomorrow and she is expected to meet the girl and get a statement.
21-year-old Petero Bai is alleged to have raped a class three student who was found unconscious in the school toilet and he allegedly punched the victim before sexually assaulting her.
Madanavosa told the court that they would like to question the class three student and to get a statement.
Defense counsel Barbara Malimali raised concern about her client on whether the DPP counsel will hold an identification parade at the hospital, and asked the DPP lawyer if she would be permitted to be at the hospital when the identification parade was done.
Justice Gounder asked Madanavosa whether there is a procedure to allow the defense to be present at the hospital, relating to Malimali's concern.
Judge Gounder told Malimali to write to the DPP to seek permission to be allowed to be at the hospital during the identification parade.
The case has been adjourned to the 21st of this month for mention.
