New Zealand Prime Minister, Helen Clark said the general elections in 2009 in Fiji would not be credible if the Interim Administration places conditions on who can contest the next elections.

Clark said no new eligibility rules for candidates should be set and anyone who can stand for the elections under the current Constitution should be given the chance to do so.

Meanwhile Clark also said that New Zealand will only decide on lifting the sanctions when her government believes that the benchmarks set for the road to democracy are being met.
