The Pacific Islands Leaders Forum has decided that another Ministerial contact group be sent to Fiji to assess the situation following which a special forum will be held later this year to decide whether Fiji be suspended from the Forum.
Speaking after the Leaders retreat in Niue this afternoon, New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark announced that the Pacific Leaders have decided that they will not let the matter rest as they are convinced that elections can be held in Fiji by March next year.
Clark said they are hoping that Fiji will choose to remain engaged with the Forum as its pacific neighbours want to help restore parliamentary democracy in the country.
