Government and the Commerce Commission are now cracking down on those businesses that are practicing anti-competition behavior.
Minister for Public Enterprise and Justice Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said they are now working with the Commerce Commission to carry out investigations into such practices.
He added that there are close to three hardware suppliers in the country, they have adopted an attitude that sees a huge percentage mark-up on their pricing.
He stressed that in the long run, the general public is the ones that are victimized and this is not in accordance with Government=s plan for affordable housing.
Meanwhile, Commerce Commission chairman Mahen Reddy said that they are now in the process of holding talks with the suppliers.
He added that they will be looking at the pricing as well as the market power of each supplier to determine a standard.
