The spectator that racially abused Petero Civoniceva has been slapped with a five-year ban from rugby league games before coming under attack for his "ridiculous" apology.

Parramatta Chief Executive Denis Fitzgerald this week called for the fan to be banned for life, unless he apologized to Civoniceva and while the man issued a written apology yesterday, Fitzgerald was far from satisfied.

Fitzgerald said the fan still wasn't taking responsibility for his actions but was pleased the matter had been resolved quickly.

The fan racially taunted Civoniceva by aiming monkey chants at the Fijian-born prop during Penrith's 22-16 win over the Eels at Parramatta Stadium last Sunday.
