From here on civil servants will have to prove themselves to be eligible for a pay rise.
With government now targeting to put all civil servants on contracts, Public Service Commission Chairman Josefa Serulagilagi said this will enable PSC to implement the merit based increment system.
Serulagilagi said there will no longer pay increments across the board for civil servants.
Permanent Secretary for PSC Parmesh Chand said while the civil servants will be put on three year contracts, their performance will be reviewed regularly.
