A civil servant charged with one count of larceny by servant was today given a suspended sentence by the Lautoka Magistrate’s Court.

Samisoni Rusivakula Vulavou who was a supervisor in the Public Works Department Leakage Control Unit was today sentenced to 2 years imprisonment suspended for two years by Magistrate Usaia Ratuvuli.

Vulavou had earlier pleaded guilty to his charges.

Vulavou acquired items from PWD stores by ordering more supplies than needed for repairing leakages in water pipes.

He was later caught red handed selling $1900 worth of supplies to a hardware shop in Lautoka.

Magistrate Ratuvuli said the deterrent in this case is that Vulavou to be sacked from his job however he considered the fact that he was a first time offender and the items were recovered.
