These two days before Christmas are expected to get busier as civil servants got paid today.

Long queues in banks, outside ATMs and shops will be seen now as civil servants rush to do their last minute shopping for Christmas.

The Permanent Secretary for the Public Service Commission, Parmesh Chand said civil servants received their normal fortnightly pay and there are no double or extra pay attached to it.

Meanwhile, police are calling on shoppers to be very careful while carrying large sums of money to do their shopping.

Police PRO Atunaisa Sokomuri said there are some people roaming around in the Town and Cities trying to pickpocket and shoppers should keep a watch on their wallets and handbags.

He is also calling on people not to put valuables visible in their vehicles before parking it in town as it can attract thieves.
