Despite the cancellation of the tsunami warning for Fiji, the Public Service Commission has decided that civil servants should stay at home today.
Director Human Resources for PSC, Vincent Raja-Lingam said they have made the decision as a precautionary measure.
The Education Ministry has also advised all schools to close today despite the cancellation of the tsunami warning.
We have also received confirmation that all the courts are also closed in Suva today.
Our reporters arrived in court to cover the decision on the legality of FICAC today. But we have been told that all the courts are closed due to the tsunami warning.
The tsunami warning issued for the Fiji group by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre was cancelled at about 8:30 this morning.
The Center in Hawaii confirms that the threat of a tsunami no longer exists however a tsunami was generated in Niue and it may have been destructive along the coasts near the earthquake center.
The warning was triggered after a earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale hit of the coast of Tonga at around 6 o'clock this morning. They say while no tsunami threat exists some other areas may experience small sea level changes.
