City, Towns open today
The Suva City Council said today shops are expected to open as it is a normal shopping Saturday, even though it is Boxing Day.
However, they say as Boxing Day falls on a Saturday, shops will open adding only on Monday, which is the official Boxing Day holiday, will shops and the markets be closed.
They say the Suva Municipal Market, Raiwaqa Market, Suva Carnegie Library, Curio and Handicraft Centre and Suva Fish Market will remain open for business as well.
It’s also business as usual in the Western Division, for Sigatoka, Nadi and Lautoka.
The shops and markets are expected to open today.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Chamber of Commerce President Swani Maharaj has welcomed the announcement by Government on the extension of commercial trading hours adding it’s a great help.
The retail and commercial trading hours for the whole of Fiji has been extended to 9pm daily, while the liquor trading hours has been extended for all the different categories. This sees nightclubs in designated areas in Suva and Nadi open until 5am daily.
