Close to 100 people of the 4 villages on Cikobia Island located to the North of Vanua Levu are waiting for help as their water sources are quickly drying up.

Speaking from Vuninuku village, Apaitia Cagituivei said the four villages of Nalele, Vatulele, Nautovatu and Vuninuku rely on wells and bore holes; however these are quickly drying up.

Cagituivei said Government officials were on the island last week for the District council meeting and were made aware of the problem currently being faced by the people on Cikobia Island.

Meanwhile Divisional Planning Officer Northern Ratu Eliki Tikoidraubuta confirmed to us this morning that they are still waiting for a barge to cart water to the outer islands in the Northern Division.
