Cikobia homes destroyed
Speaking to Village News via Radio Telephone a few minutes ago from Cikobia, the Staff Nurse Raj said there is a lot of damage to homes and crops on the island.
He said some people have now gone to check on another village which is an hour’s walk from where they are to try and assess the damage on the other side of the island.
DISMAC Officer at the National Operations Center Viliame Tuimanu confirms that according to reports received so far there have been no reports of injuries. However they are still trying to establish the extent of damages to homes and infrastructure on the island.
Labasa Hospital Medical Superintend Dr. Ami Chand told Village news that there nurse on the island confirms that there have been no serious injuries or casualties as the villagers escaped in time before their homes were destroyed.
It is believed that the villagers who had to flee their homes to shelter in the caves on the island.
