The Prices and Incomes Board has confirmed that cigarettes is not a price control item and retailers determine their own prices.

Secretary Lucy Naimawi said PIB has no powers on non-price control items as their prices are controlled by competition.

Her comments came after concerns were raised that some shopkeepers sell a packet of BH 20s for five dollars whereas some sell it for $4.85.

Meanwhile, PIB continues to prosecute traders who sell price control items at a higher price.

Some traders have been heavily fined for breaching the law.
