The Methodist Church of Fiji will apply for a permit to seek permission for a meeting of its Standing Committee this Friday.

Methodist Church President Reverend Ame Tugawe said the standing Committee of the church plans to meet on Friday to discuss the decision that Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama has made that the church conference will not go ahead next month.

Tugawe said he was disappointed after meeting with Bainimarama that they would need a permit to hold meetings of the Standing Committee, however he has assured that the Church will comply with the requirements.

He said he will not publically announce to the members of the Methodist Church that the conference will not go ahead this year until the Standing committee meets to discuss the matter.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama has asked Reverend Ame Tugaue to remove church executives like Reverends Manasa Lasaro and Tomasi Kanailagi if they want the church conference to go ahead in the coming years.

Bainimarama has also stressed that the conference will not go ahead in 2010 and in the coming years if the church continues to have people with a political agenda.
