The Methodist Church Standing Committee violated the permit that was given for the Annual Methodist Church conference last year according to a Police and Military National Command Centre official.

Lt Ifereimi Buaserau said before the church conference last year, he went to the Commissioner Central twice and asked him to check whether the church will comply with the permit conditions.

He said the Commissioner Central assured him that they received two letters from Reverend Manasa Lasaro that no political issues will be discussed.

However Buaserau said they were concerned that on the last day of the meeting last year, the Peoples Charter pamphlets were given out to church ministers and the church voted against the Charter.

Meanwhile, Methodist Church President Reverand Ame Tugawe said the standing Committee of the church plans to meet on Friday to discuss the decision that Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama has made that the church conference will not go ahead next month.

Tugawe said he was disappointed after meeting with Bainimarama that they would need a permit to hold meetings of the Standing Committee, however he has assured that the Church will comply with the requirements and apply for a permit for Friday's meeting.
