The Catholic Church of Fiji said the Methodist Church should not try to impose the ban on Sunday trading as it is unfair to majority of the population in the country.
Church Vicar General, Father Beni Kaloudau said while he respects the decision of the Methodist Church, it should think of all the people in the country.
Father Kaloudau also said everyone's dignity and beliefs should be respected.
The Methodist Church of Fiji has resolved to request all town and city councils around the country to ensure that no business is permitted to open on Sunday and any other day significant on the Christian calendar.
Members of the church attending the conference in Naduri, Macuata endorsed that Divisional Superintendents will now write to the town and city councils to respect the Sabbath by banning Sunday trading, including all major sales on Sundays.
The Church will also request that no trading be allowed on other Christian holidays, like Easter and Christmas.
