A 66yr old church caretaker of Vatukoula is in police custody for allegedly indecently assaulting a 7yr old girl this week.

Police Media Officer West, Wame Bautolu has confirmed that the man who was on the run after the alleged incident was arrested this morning.

The alleged incident took place when the girl was cleaning the basement of the church. It is alleged that a young boy saw the caretaking committing the offence and reported it to other people present who then took the matter to police.

He is expected to be charged soon.

Meanwhile, a 60yr old security officer of Bua had to be airlifted to the CWM hospital after he was badly bashed up by a man during a robbery at the shop they were guarding this week.

The victim was guarding the shop with another 65yr old security officer when the robber approached them and assaulted them.

The 60yr old sustained serious injuries and was transferred to the CWM hospital while the 65yr old security officer, who suffered a broken arm is admitted at the Nabouwalu hospital.

The robber managed to steal cash, liquor, cigarette and other items worth more than $4,000,

Meanwhile, a 30yr old farmer of Kadavu is in police custody after dried leaves believed to be marijuana was confiscated from him.

He was arrested upon arriving at the Narain Jetty in an inter-island vessel and upon searching police found a parcel of dried leaves stuffed inside his underpants.

He is expected to be charged soon.
