The Methodist Church of Fiji has confirmed that it will not close the Ba Mission Hospital after an earlier threat by the Church General Secretary.

Now the Methodist General Secretary, Reverend Ame Tugawe said the church cannot close the hospital in Ba although the Interim Health Minister has asked them to repay the $435,000 tax owed to the government by the church.

Reverend Tugawe said they understand that the hospital provides services to about 60,000 people in Ba and the drastic step cannot be taken.

Meanwhile, Interim Health Minister Doctor Senilagakali maintains that the church should pay its dues and stop calling on the interim government to write off the debts.
