The Methodist Church of Fiji is concerned about the increase in the number of Christian churches in the country.

Assistant General Secretary Reverend Tuikilakila Waqairatu said with more than 1,000 registered church organizations in a country whose population has not reached 1 million, it could bring out a lot of differences among people.

Reverend Waqairatu added that in most villages around the country there are close to more than 4 religion groups in a village, with a lot of differences in the way they interpret their teachings, which has led to differences amongst close relatives.

He believes that most of these new churches came about after personal differences amongst church leaders.
