Police are closely monitoring a village in Serua following a dispute between members of two different church groups.

Navua Police have confirmed five villagers have been interviewed and released while some more are expected to be questioned soon.

It is alleged an argument developed when a group of villagers who are members of Methodist Church dismantled a shed and allegedly assaulted a group of people who are members of new Methodist Church.

According to Police, members of new Methodist Church group were preparing to have a church service in the village when a group of members from Methodist Church confronted them. They then allegedly dismantled the shed and in the process some villagers were assaulted.

Meanwhile, the Methodist Church President Reverend laisiasa Ratabacaca says that at the moment the church can not make any statement as the incident is news to them.

Police were called in and some villagers were arrested. Charges are expected to be laid soon.
