The Chinese delegation from the International Poverty Reduction Center in China currently in the country to explore different poverty alleviation strategies said they are happy with the approach taken by government to tackle poverty in the country.
The Social Welfare Ministry's Permanent Secretary, Govind Sami briefed the delegation on their poverty alleviation programs and the assistance provided by the ministry to the poor.
The head of delegation and Chairman of the International Poverty Reduction Center Liu Jian through a translator told Fijivillage that they visited some housing projects in the Western Division yesterday and will be visiting some sites today after which they will make a decision on how assistance can be provided to Fiji.
Meanwhile, Social Welfare Ministry's Permanent Secretary Govind Sami said they are looking forward to strengthening their ties with China and hope they will be able to get resources from China to eradicate poverty.
It is anticipated that after this visit a project will enable employment of the social welfare clients in China.
The team will be in the country till Sunday.
