The worst violation of human rights is poverty and children are the victims.
Those are the words of the Chief Guest at the inaugural Save the Children symposium, UNICEF Pacific Representative, Doctor Isiye Ndombi to over 50 participants.
Doctr Ndombi said while we live in the most prosperous time in history with the global economy expecting to exceed $US60 billion and one thousand billionaires already in the world, there are one billion people living on less than a dollar a day with many more lacking access to proper infrastructure and services.
He added that if nothing is done now to address the issue of poverty in children, the scenario will get worse.
He added that taking into account the geographical location of Fiji and how far flung the islands are, more needs to be done in the country to address poverty to ensure that children are not affected.
The two day symposium ends tomorrow.
