A study carried out by the Foundation for the Needy Children in Fiji has showed that children living in single parent families have been missing school due to various reasons.

A review carried out by FENC Fiji volunteers showed that out of 1,011 children identified, while 5 percent live with both parents, 40 percent live in single parent families.

FENC Fiji National Coordinator, Irshad Ali said this is a concern for the country when one considers the plight of these families with low income.

Ali said the study showed single parent families are more likely to be poor adding that most of the poor families are headed solely by a female adult.
