Children mourn mother’s death
Sonam Singh of Wairuku Rakiraki said she witnessed the accident which claimed the life of her 36 year old mother who had just left their home with her 8 year old sister, who were on their way to their neighbours home.
Singh said her 8 year old sister who was with her mother is recovering slowly and her focus is now on trying to help her father raise her eight siblings, the youngest of which is only 9 months old.
Meanwhile, 26 year old Malakai Tikomai-igiladi who has been charged with three counts of dangerous driving occasioning death, dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and driving without a license appeared in a special court sitting this morning.
It is alleged that last Thursday, Malakai Tikomai-igiladi lost control of his vehicle and hit the 36 year old woman who was walking with her eight year old child along Wairuku road Rakiraki.
He appeared in Tavua Court before Magistrate Koya and was released on cash bail of $1500 with strict bail conditions, that he is to report to Lautoka Police Station everyday from 8am to 6pm, surrender all his travel documents, not to drive any motor vehicle, not to renew his driving license with Land Transport Authority and imposed a curfew on him from 6pm to 6am.
No plea was taken today.
He has also been ordered not to interfere with witnesses and not to commit any other offence.
The case has been adjourned to 26th January.
