Children in Koro walk over a mile to reach school
That is the revelation by the Chairman of the Bose ni Koro of Tuatua Village, Lepani Nacola who said the village children have no option as there is only one school, Nasau Fijian School to attend in their area and the students have to walk a total of one and a half miles to reach their destination.
Nacola adds that during the rainy season the students end up reaching school in wet clothes as there is no transport available to take them to school.
Speaking to our reporter in Koro, Ana Naisoro, Nacola reveals that the only trucks in the village are cargo trucks and these cannot carry passengers.
Nacola adds that when the Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama makes his tour tomorrow to the island, the village will ask him to assist their children by setting up transport assistance.
However, Nacola reveals that the village has fundraising to pay for the students school fees and have also built a school kitchen to ensure that the children eat when they are in school.
The Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama is expected to open a Copra Plant in Koro tomorrow.
