A late resurgence has seen the Chiefs claim their second-straight Super Rugby title.

They have beaten the Brumbies 27-22 in front of a sellout home crowd at Waikato Stadium.

The Brumbies carried a 16-9 lead into halftime, after leading 9-nil early in the game.

The Chiefs trailed by ten with 20 minutes to play, but Liam Messam dotted down for the home side to close the gap to within five.

The victory was sealed in the last five minutes of the match with a converted try to reserve back Robbie Robinson, and a further penalty goal to Aaron Cruden.

Liam Messam won man of the match for the second year running after he scored the Chiefs second try.

Messam said this win is a special one.

Chiefs fullback Gareth Anscombe said it is a great experience to win a second consecutive Super Rugby title after beating the Brumbies.

Meanwhile, Brumbies player George Smith said they threw everything in this match.
