Defending Super Rugby champions the Chiefs may be written off after a walloping by the Hurricanes, but coach Dave Rennie has other ideas.

Rennie said this is something similar to what happened last year when the Chiefs came back from a similar heavy defeat and won the Super Rugby title.

The only trouble is the situation is a little serious compared to last year where they came back from a 43-15 away loss to the Crusaders to win their last regular season match, clinch the New Zealand Conference and finish top overall to grab a home semifinal and final.

The Chiefs will take on the Waratahs at 4.35pm Saturday.

This Friday the Crusaders take on the Force at 7.35pm while the Reds will play the Highlanders at 9.40pm.
