The Canterbury Crusaders rugby team suffered second defeat in a row after last night's frustrating loss to the Chiefs at McLean Park by 24 19.

The Crusaders made a puzzling start to their night. Although stung by the criticism that followed their second round defeat to the Highlanders, the forwards were unable to transfer that aggression into their scrums, and this is surely an area that will be scrutinised over the next few days.

Meanwhile, Hurricanes halfback TJ Perenara scored a hat trick of tries to punctuate his team 46-19 bonus point win over the Western Force in Perth.

It seemed fitting that in his first Super Rugby start the 20 year old played beyond expectations, the theme of the Hurricanes bright start to the season.

At 4.35pm Brumbies take on Cheeetahs, at 6.35pm Highlanders meets Waratahs, 8.40pm Reds will face the rebels.
