The Fiji Police Force is now involving chiefs and community leaders to fight against drug cultivation in the highlands of Navosa.
Assistant spokesperson Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri said chiefs and village elders play an important role and it is therefore necessary to involve them in the fight against marijuana cultivation.
Meanwhile, police have managed to arrest two farmers for allegedly cultivating marijuana in the highlands of Navosa.
Inspector Sokomuri said the two are believed to be the owners of the farms which were raided by police last week where the marijuana plants uprooted were worth millions of dollars.
He said they are awaiting the analysis report after which charges are expected to be laid.
Police raided a number of farms and uprooted more than 2,000 marijuana plants last week.
